Looking forward to 2018
In the gallery we've been looking back over the past year and remembering the great times of 2017...
The year opened with a fresh coat of paint - a perfect way to prepare the gallery for our first exhibition of 2017; Mo Jupp | New Work. Jupp's impressive figures set the exhibition bar high and the exhibitions that followed were equally outstanding.
The gallery space was full of colour with stunning crystalline glazes from Matt Horne | Crystal Creations. Ashraf Hanna celebrated his 50th birthday with 50 pieces for '50 at 50'. Two approaches to assembling clay were seen with Assembled Space | Mandy Cheng and Derek Wilson. Colour was seen again as the stripes of Sara Moorhouse and blocked colour by Maria Wojdat featured in Colour Connections. Heading into mid summer, our international exhibition brought Paola Paronetto and Paper and Clay constructions to the gallery in August. The mood changed, with the earthy tones and textures seen in work by Martin Pearce, Paul Wearing and Rachel Wood for Tangibles. As the leaves on the trees began to change colour, Anna Lambert showed her painted vessels with themes of nature, orchards and environmental changes. Living Space | New work by Jack Doherty filled the gallery with the blues and rusts of his signature soda fired porcelain, and for the first time we exhibited paintings alongside ceramics during 65 Years In The Making | New work by Robin Welch.
Together with this busy program of exhibitions, the retail space continued to feature new makers alongside gallery regulars. Our display rotation brought 22 new makers into the gallery, many of whom are featured in previous posts on this blog.
We are now looking forward to 2018.
