New Makers For 2015 Carol Wainwright
Carol Wainwright
We are delighted to be showing the work of established maker Carol Wainwright. Her fluid brush marks are exaggerated by the sumptuous glazes, creating surfaces that give the illusion of being freshly painted.
I like making; mixing my clay that comes straight from
the quarry ( hence the occasional lump ), holding brushes, the luscious slop of
the glaze. When I start glazing I don't know how it will finish. Usually the
first marks are made with the black and all that follows is a response to that
first mark. I love pattern and, above all, colour. The contrast between the
various qualities and surfaces of the glazes matters to me. This is the way
that I build my pictures on the plates.
