On The Wheel is a showcase of five potters, each of whom has excelled in the art of throwing, the traditional technique of making round vessels. Five individual approaches touch on the many possibilities originating from this process, one where the marks of making, the hands of the potter, are unavoidable and exploited, delivering surfaces that embrace the effect of the firing process, the flame on the glaze and the clay.

The origins of many vessels on display reflect the international influences found within contemporary studio pottery. Yunomi’s and chawans based heavily on Far Eastern aesthetics with glazes originating from China and shapes heavily influenced by Japanese culture.
